(¿1796? cond. de Logan, Ky., EE.UU. –6 mar. 1836, San Antonio, Texas).

Militar estadounidense. Migró con sus padres a Missouri (1800) y luego a Luisiana (1802), donde posteriormente fue dueño de una plantación de caña de azúcar y ocupó un cargo en el poder legislativo del estado. En 1828 se estableció en Texas, adoptó la ciudadanía mexicana, adquirió mercedes de tierra y contrajo matrimonio con la hija del vicegobernador. Se opuso a las leyes mexicanas dirigidas a frenar la inmigración de colonos estadounidenses e ingresó al movimiento revolucionario de Texas, llegando al rango de coronel en el ejército tejano. Se le recuerda por su gallarda figuración en la defensa de El Álamo. Inventó el puñal que lleva su nombre. Las canciones y baladas del oeste lo convirtieron en figura legendaria.
